Howard County Library System (HCLS), Library Journal’s 2013 Library of The Year has ordered three (3) copies of CEO Eric Simmons’ Memoir, “Not Far From The Tree,” for the System’s Central, East Columbia, and Miller Branches, ESE, Inc. announced today. As part of HCLS’ 2013 award, Library Journal hailed the System’s “Libraries = Education” philosophy which positions libraries as educational institutions and library staff as educators. The Journal referred to it as “a 21st-century model worthy of study and consideration by every other library in America, if not the world.” HCLS was selected from among the 21,000 public and academic libraries in North America. Headquartered in Ellicott City, Maryland, HCLS has a Collection of over one million items in its six branch locations.
